POSITION OVERVIEW

The Institutional Risk Actuary will join Global Atlantic’s Institutional Markets business based in our NYC offices at 30 Hudson Yards. Institutional Markets is a principal investing team focused on deploying capital on reinsurance and acquisition opportunities in the insurance industry. Since Global Atlantic’s founding in 2004, the group has executed multiple strategic acquisitions and reinsurance transactions, including block, flow and PRT reinsurance, representing a total of +$100 billion of assets.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Institutional Risk, the Institutional Risk Actuary will work as part of the Institutional Markets team to help model blocks of insurance liabilities, perform quantitative and qualitative analysis used to evaluate potential reinsurance or acquisition opportunities, and participate in risk-management of the Institutional Markets book of business more broadly.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform liability modeling for reinsurance deal pricing and financial analysis
  • Reconcile model output, including single cell analysis, against other sources, such as appraisal projections (from ALFA, Poly, etc.) or the output of Experience Studies models
  • Help with identifying and quantifying risks embedded in different liabilities by stressing insurance / liability assumptions, and suggesting sensitivities and mitigating actions
  • Assist with experience studies for reinsurance pricing and performance monitoring
  • Assist with understanding the financial performance of completed deals
  • Assist with providing integration support for completed deals
  • Collaborate both within the Institutional Business, as well as with other areas such as Risk, Actuarial, Finance, and Investments regularly

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline required
  • Qualified Actuary: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries preferred
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including actuarial consulting, reinsurance, insurance M&A, and valuation / financial reporting
  • Strong quantitative and technical abilities, broad knowledge of life and annuity products
  • Strong skills / experience in actuarial modeling, and experience working with modeling software such as ALFA, AXIS, or Prophet required
  • Experience with financial performance analysis and liability assumption setting is a plus
  • Exceptional analytical abilities, with the ability to draw clear conclusions from research and effectively communicate with leaders across the organization
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Global Atlantic’s base salary range is determined through an analysis of similar positions in the external labor market. The annual base salary range provided in this posting for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country.  Base pay is just one component of Global Atlantic’s total compensation package for employees and at times we hire outside the boundaries of the salary range. Other rewards may include annual cash bonuses, long-term incentives (equity), generous benefits (including immediate vesting on employee contributions to a 401(k), as well as a company match on your contributions), and sales incentives.  Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Compensation for our more senior positions have a larger component of short-term cash bonus and long-term incentives.  The base salary range for this role is $165,000 to $300,000.
