Global Atlantic Financial Company is seeking a candidate for the position of Actuarial Modeling Associate in Des Moines, Iowa. Responsibilities include:

  • Actuarial Modeling Associate within the Actuarial Modeling Group in Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Responsible for input management by optimizing the efficiency and accuracy with which external policy and transaction data is brought into the Global Atlantic models.
  • Work with Operations Team to build checks of Third-Party Administrators (TPA) data extracts and scrubbing of data before it is released to production.
  • Build automated checks and key effective controls of all inputs into the production process and throughout the process.
  • Responsible for output management by establishing a robust reporting framework to support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Build standard actuarial analysis and review reports with drill down capability.
  • Help support the team leader, as required, with the design of the analysis and review reports.
  • Responsible for model validation by taking on a measure of responsibility in ensuring all actuarial models are appropriately and independently validated.
  • Build parallel models in IBM’s Algo Financial Modeler (AFM) to validate complex valuation models and to feed automated quarterly comparison dashboards.
  • Update and maintain existing AFM models as necessary for model and assumption changes.


  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or a related quantitative field, plus three (3) years of experience in model and data risk management with a life insurance company, Big 4 accounting firm, or major consulting firm. Employer will accept bachelor's degree equivalent based on single degree (i.e., 4-year foreign bachelor's degree program), combination of degrees (i.e., 3-year foreign bachelor's degree program + 2-year foreign master's degree program), or combination of degree(s) and professional work experience (e.g., 3-year foreign bachelor's degree program + 3 or more years of progressive work experience), where determined to be equivalent to U.S. bachelor's degree by a qualified credential evaluation service, such as the Trustforte Corporation.

Prior work experience must include three (3) years of:

  • Modeling Index and non- Index linked Universal Life Product on MG-ALFA.
  • Building different accounting regulations such as Tax, GAAP, PGAAP, and LDTI on MG-ALFA.
  • Reporting different accounting financials to insurance regulators.
  • Calculating different insurance components such as reserves, liabilities, and assets to meet the different company and external stakeholder needs.
  • Modeling different assumptions such as lapse, death, interest rates, interest rate into the different Actuarial tools such as MG ALFA
  • Performing experience analysis of different assumptions such as market assumptions, lapse, mortality, and surrender assumption.
  • Making recommendation of different assumptions to be built into the model.
  • Reporting for different legal entities such as captives and reinsurers.
  • Building key automation tools using Python and Excel VBA for smoother process improvement.
