The Sales Planning Associate will join the Sales Planning and Compensation Team and will report directly to the AVP, Sales Planning and Compensation in the Des Moines office.

This position is responsible for leading financial and variable compensation analysis, metrics and sales plan/forecast reporting for Individual Markets segment. In this role, the Associate works closely with senior leaders to evaluate sales trends and develop actionable analytics. The Associate will research and analyze metrics and trends to provide insights needed for business decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with senior leaders to assist in setting detailed annual sales plans, quarterly forecasts and monthly estimates
  • Build and update financial models for sales planning and forecasting
  • Analyze sales forecasts, trends and understand sales results while evaluating against sales plans/goals (at product and firm levels)
  • Perform analysis of sales results and prepare detailed sales plans/forecasts and latest estimates for senior management, financial reporting and other internal constituents
  • Prepare annual Variable Incentive Compensation Plans for the Global Atlantic Sales Team; work with sales management on compensation plans for new hires
  • Assist in managing and overseeing the administration of the Variable Incentive Compensation program (including budget, forecast and historical views)
  • Build and update financial models for tracking and validating Variable Incentive Compensation
  • Submit the monthly Variable Incentive Compensation accrual and review monthly expenses
  • Partner with Operations on Capacity Planning (align ops staffing needs with projected sales volumes)
  • Responsible for sales plan/forecast and VIC-related reports as requested
  • Complete other financial reporting deliverables as requested
  • Function as an informal team leader across the team, providing help and guidance as needed
  • Document processes, identify areas for improvement and help implement solutions


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related area
  • Minimum five (5)+ years of experience preferably in the Insurance or Financial industry
  • Strong Excel skills – pivot tables, lookup/matching, query skills
  • Prior experience with sales planning/forecasting and compensation planning a plus
  • Demonstrated strong analytical ability
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, for delivery to a variety of audiences
  • High energy level and internal motivation
  • Adaptable, can seamlessly maintain effort and focus when priorities change
  • Learning mindset, focus on continuous process improvement
  • Results-oriented, with ability to execute multiple high-priority items simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented, with ability to test complex calculations and spot gaps in current processes
