The Vice President – Employment Counsel will join the Global Atlantic Corporate Legal team, serving as the chief legal support to Global Atlantic’s Human Resources Department.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Administration Officer, the Chief Human Resource Officer and others to provide legal advice on a wide range of issues, including employment law, employee relations, employee and agent benefits, and office real estate.  This position reports to the Head of Corporate Legal and will be based either in our Hartford or Boston office.  Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Chief Administration Officer and Human Resources Department by providing the legal expertise necessary to accomplish the Department’s goals.
  • Collaborating with the Chief Security and Resilience Office in enhancing and maintaining the corporate security, business continuity, and executive aviation plans.
  • Providing day to day support to Human Resources on a broad range of issues relating to offer letters, separation agreements, restrictive covenants, immigration, independent contractor issues, reviewing third-party service contracts supporting HR, and DE&I initiatives.
  • Serving as counsel to the company’s Benefits Committee, providing advice on benefits plan issues, including plans governed by ERISA and Reg 409A.
  • Drafting and advising Human Resources on a variety of policies, procedures and employee trainings including anti-harassment, Code of Conduct, and paid leave policies.
  • Providing employment law expertise for Corporate Development projects, including mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring.
  • Advising the Senior Employee Relations Manager on employee relations issues, including employee investigations and employee complaints.
  • Working with the Head of Real Estates to review office leases and other real estate issues that arise.
  • Managing outside counsel when necessary to complete complex projects and transactions, including issues involving Bermuda law.
  • Acting as the main liaison between the Human Resources Department and the Legal and Compliance Department.


  • Graduate of accredited Law School with at least 7 years of experience dealing with employment law issues at a law firm or inhouse.  (Experience at both a plus.)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to serve as a strategic partner to HR and provide practical and actionable advice.
  • Strong communication skills, work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects with little or no supervision
  • Strong sense of curiosity to investigate, research and comprehend new laws and technology
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the United States.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Atlanta: Packaged Good Organization, which helps the most vulnerable community members with providing personalized care packages for people in need including the elderly, our armed forces, the homeless and hospitalized kids
  • Bermuda: Sponsor of a weekly feeding program operated by The Hamilton Seventh-Day Adventist Church
