Global Atlantic Financial Company Bermuda Limited invites applications to join the Bermuda Finance team as a Senior Finance Analyst.  The Senior Finance Analyst will support the Bermuda reinsurance companies and the company’s Institutional business segment primarily via the support of capital management as a key member of the cross functional capital management team.  In partnership with a supervising senior accountant, they will represent the accounting function.  The successful incumbent will have strong accounting and control skills, and the ability to absorb and support actuarial and risk considerations.  Duties will include organizing and tracking status of our regulatory filings and internal management requests on topic.  A key goal for this role is to partner with Investment Accounting to assure accurate and Bermuda compliant asset information for use by the team.   The Senior Finance Analyst will also have the ability to work with more complex, non-accounting concepts. Ability to build relationships and trust with functional and reinsurer management is a critical success factor.  The role monitors results and produces exception reports along with fluctuation analyses to ensure the team achieves the timeframes and reporting standards required by their stakeholders.    This is an extraordinary opportunity to grow with our dynamic and leading long-term, reinsurance business in Bermuda, gaining exposure to life and annuity business across several accounting and capital regimes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Timely planning, preparation and compilation of information for quarterly and annual BSCR reporting. Deliver financial reports, footnotes and supporting documentation for corporate and entity reporting requirements.
  • Perform and quarterly review of asset information and flux for the purpose of BSCR and management reporting and analyses. Track availability of information, review variances in trend or expected levels, prepare reconciliations, produce control and flash reports for Finance and capital team.
  • Investigate unanticipated variances, providing timely feedback to source areas to ensure that issues are addressed promptly within required timeframes.
  • Participate in analytical review of performance of each of the Bermuda reinsurance legal entities.  This will include flux analyses, actual to expected / projected reviews and identification of key drivers capital implications.
  • Work on complex non-accounting concepts as part of a cross-functional team with Risk and Actuarial.
  • Under the direction of the supervisor, incorporate new business and relevant changes in the books of multiple Bermuda reinsurers into procedures, queries and control processes.  Develop ability to propose action and assume greater autonomy in identifying and directing changes required by new transactions.
  • Demonstrate successful progression to ownership of an entity’s capital reporting or more complex drivers of required capital. Provide value added input and problem solving for the team as experience in role grows.
  • Identify control and quality issues proactively and deliver corrective action to meet targets.
  • Support system enhancements and recommend and design process/system improvements that maximize operating efficiencies.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required or must have at least 2 years of experience with capital management for a re/insurer or with life re/insurance products and their profitability considerations.
  • 3-4 years of relevant analytical work experience required; recent experience in life insurance with reinsurance exposure preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP or US Statutory accounting required; experience with calculating or assessing RBC or BSCR ratios strongly preferred
  • Excellent understanding of controls
  • Investment Accounting experience in a re/insurer a plus
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.  Pro-active, detail oriented and deadline driven; able to consistently deliver high quality product
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence others and communicate across all areas of the company
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with a continuous improvement and automation history.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel required
  • Familiarity with Essbase, Hyperion, W Desk, Tableau, and other reporting and analysis applications a plus
