This role will be onsite in one of our major offices: Des Moines, Hartford, Boston or New York.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Individual Markets (Individual Markets CCO) will report to the Global Atlantic Chief Compliance Officer. The Individual Markets CCO will be responsible for leading the Individual Markets Compliance team. A successful candidate must have extensive experience in the regulation of life insurance companies, with particular expertise in the regulatory scheme for life insurance, annuities and broker-dealers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Individual Markets Compliance team and oversee the compliance activities of Global Atlantic’s Individual Markets business unit (comprised of its Retirement and Life Insurance businesses), including compliance with state insurance laws, federal securities laws, FINRA broker-dealer requirements, SEC registered investment adviser and investment company/mutual fund laws and regulations, and international compliance regulations where applicable.
  • Supervise and manage a Compliance team comprised of approximately 17 professionals who are geographically distributed among Global Atlantic’s business locations in Boston, Hartford, Des Moines, Indianapolis and Batesville, IN.
  • Among the specific responsibilities of the Individual Markets Compliance team are:
    • Developing, testing and implementing compliance policies and procedures for the Individual Markets businesses and advising business partners on compliance matters.
    • Supporting and partnering with the Individual Markets businesses to manage regulatory and compliance risks related to the manufacturing, sale and servicing of individual annuities and individual life insurance, including variable, fixed and fixed income annuities and individual life insurance sold primarily through banks, broker-dealers and independent marketing organizations.
    • End-to-end compliance oversight, including developing and maintaining effective controls designed to monitor the effectiveness of the compliance program; ensuring and supporting the review of the appropriateness of the compliance system and procedures and implementing necessary remediation for any identified deficiencies. 
    • Developing and delivering a robust compliance training program for registered representatives (primarily annuity wholesalers) of Global Atlantic Distributors, a FINRA member firm.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the business and its activities in order to ensure adequate compliance oversight and resources as the business needs evolve over time.
  • Periodic reporting to Global Atlantic senior management and other company stakeholders.
  • Participate in the legislative/regulatory monitoring process, including advising the business on the creation of new, and changes to, existing processes and procedures to satisfy legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Regulatory Exams and Customer Complaint Compliance team in the handling and resolution of regulatory exams, regulatory inquiries and consumer complaints. 
  • Assist with drafting and preparing of compliance reports and other materials for the Variable Insurance Trust’s Board of Trustees.
  • Handle broader projects for the Global Atlantic Compliance team and complete special assignments as required.
  • Establish strong working relationships within the broader Global Atlantic Legal and Compliance community.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal person for the Individual Markets CCO role should have [6 to 8] years of managerial experience and knowledge in managing compliance, legal or audit professionals, including maintaining policies and procedures, overseeing compliance risk assessment processes, implementing compliance training programs, and monitoring and remediating potential violations of policy or law. Candidates will be expected to possess the following professional and personal attributes:

  • A Juris Doctor degree is a plus.
  • At least [6 to 8] years in a senior position managing compliance professionals
  • At least [10/12] years of insurance/annuities/securities industry experience, with significant in-house experience
  • Business knowledge and acumen
  • Direct experience interfacing with state and federal regulators
  • FINRA series 6/26 or 7/24 licenses are desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of state insurance laws, FINRA, SEC and state securities laws and regulations applicable to broker-dealers and mutual funds
  • Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities and work effectively on multiple initiatives concurrently while maintaining strict attention to detail
  • Capacity to consider, process and filter large amounts of complex information quickly and identify appropriate actions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to interpret and communicate compliance guidance internally and to effectively communicate with regulators
  • Proven interpersonal skills
