The Senior Automated Underwriting Consultant will join the Global Atlantic Life and Annuity Operations team to support the modernization and ongoing development of its underwriting program.  The person in this role will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex automated underwriting technology projects and initiatives.  This is a fully remote position but may require occasional travel.  Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the strategic goals for automated underwriting set forth by senior leadership
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Global Atlantic’s underwriting guidelines and procedures from a medical, financial, legal, and compliance perspective
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the application workflow, from submission to issue/placement
  • Provide insight into forms and rule script verbiage for improvement in the overall process
  • Proficiency in the use of the rules engine, including but not limited to individual rules development, use of case data, and integration of third-party data elements such as pharmacy search, lab tests, MIB, MVR’s, customer ID verification tools, electronic health records, and predictive model scoring
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including Operations, Sales, Product, Legal/Compliance, Project Management, and IT as needed to drive success
  • Collaborate with external vendors as needed on workflow process, rules building, calibrations, and integrations with data and technology tools
  • Auditing of automated case decisions to validate accuracy of outcomes
  • Auditing of auto-referred cases to determine if the referral could have been avoided, and if so to propose a solution
  • Regular testing of newly updated rules and automated system components to validate outcomes and ensure successful releases
  • Maintain accurate and concise documentation of testing outcomes, audits, rules engine enhancements, and other initiatives
  • Monitor and identify malfunctions in the automated process and provide troubleshooting to determine cause(s) and offer solutions
  • Apply analytics to identify responsibly prudent ways to push the STP (straight-through-process) rate upward
  • Ability to communicate technically complex concepts in an understandable way to a variety of audiences
  • Champion creative thinking and innovation
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and trends pertaining to automated underwriting


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and life underwriting experience
  • Three (3) plus years of life underwriting experience
  • Two (2) plus years of experience with automated underwriting workflows and systems is a plus
  • Direct rules-building experience within a rules engine is a plus
  • Technical savvy and an ability to quickly learn and innovate
  • Strong communication skills, work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft office product suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fellowship Life Office Management (FLMI) and Fellowship Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) preferred
