Summary:

The Vice President, Corporate Actuarial (the actuary) will report to the Senior Vice President and Divisional Chief Actuary.  The VP Actuary will coordinate interdepartmental actuarial projects and initiatives (such as LDTI) acting as a liaison between: Corporate Actuarial, Valuation, Model Development, IT, Ops, Risk, Finance, and other groups.  In many cases, the actuary will actively manage these projects.  The actuary will also support and provide guidance to junior members of Corporate Actuarial.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support and/or management of interdepartmental projects involving actuarial balances: LDTI, VM22 / Fixed Annuity PBR, Assumption Review, onboarding of new external/internal reinsurance transactions, etc.
  • Management of asset adequacy analysis in support of the Actuarial Opinion of three onshore insurance companies (the SVP/Divisional Chief Actuary is the Appointed Actuary for these entities)
  • Validation of Statutory Reserves for the three insurance entities
  • Provide guidance to junior members of Corporate Actuarial in their roles
  • Analysis of capital impacts of external and internal reinsurance transactions
  • Supporting Risk and other teams in calculating statutory capital, RBC, and other capital metrics under internal and external stress scenarios
  • Maintaining and improving relevant controls
  • Supporting audit and regulatory requests

Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • FSA
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in the life insurance industry
  • 5+ years’ experience (10+ years strongly preferred) with  life  insurance  Statutory  and  GAAP  valuation/financial reporting
  • Strong technical/analytical skills
  • Annuity experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with asset adequacy testing strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, technical, and analytical skills with the ability to participate in creative idea generation
  • Ability to take personal accountability for the execution of goals and objectives, with a positive attitude and excellent ability to work in a team
