POSITION OVERVIEW

Ideally this position will based be in our Hamilton, Bermuda office.  Alternately, depending on candidate preference, it could be based in our Boston, MA office.  The actuary will support all actuarial aspects related to required capital reporting for the company’s Bermuda-based affiliates.  The actuary will report to the Senior Vice President and Appointed Actuary. The actuary will also work closely with the valuation team, the Bermuda Finance team, and the Risk team. Key responsibilities of the role include (across three Bermuda entities):

 

  • Calculation of all actuarial components that drive the determination of the Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement (BSCR)
  • Calculating NAIC, Tax and GAAP reserves, and related actuarial balances
  • Providing projections and analyses for BSCR, NAIC and GAAP balances and earnings impacts
  • Supporting Risk and other teams in calculating BSCR and other capital metrics under internal and external stress scenarios
  • Maintaining and improving relevant controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
  • Conducting annual impact testing for potential assumption changes
  • Working with the Modeling team related to any necessary modeling updates
  • Supporting audit and regulatory requests

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience in the life insurance industry
  • Life and/or Annuity experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with asset adequacy testing (CFT) a strong preference
  • Experience with Bermuda valuation requirements a plus, but not expected
  • FSA strongly preferred
  • Background in life insurance Statutory and GAAP valuation/financial reporting
  • Experience with actuarial software, MG-ALFA preferred.
  • Strong communication, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Takes personal accountability for the execution of goals and objectives.
  • Able to participate in the generation of new and unique ideas.
  • Has positive attitude necessary to be part of a strong performing team
