Enterprise Architects provide overall direction, guidance, definition, and facilitation for the creation of a technology architecture (current and target state) required to meet business strategies and goals. They interface across multiple lines of business to maintain a solid understanding of the organizations business drivers and objectives. Responsibilities include: the establishment of the overall architectural and associated viewpoints, the establishment and oversight of organization standards and policies, identification of major system interfaces, business capability needs, and existing architecture weaknesses and opportunities for systems.

Serving in this role requires an individual to be a self-starter, work independently, and as a team member. They must have strong communication skills in interfacing with business partners and the IT community. Architects are also responsible for educating and guiding others on architectural standards, principles, methodology and trends. They must have significant business knowledge and have expertise within one or more areas of information, solution, and/or technical architecture. Architects are expected to mentor and coach less experienced staff and provide knowledge transfer across the organization. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of GA’s enterprise architecture to effectively support business strategy.
  • Supports all architectural disciplines and champions architectural initiatives.
  • Interfaces across all business areas, acting as visionary to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects.
  • Reviews business drivers and strategies, understands the implications to the application architecture, and identifies/mitigates risks to solutions.
  • Analyzes the current enterprise architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvement.
  • Defines transition steps and strategy from the current to the future application architecture.
  • Defines development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development and integration.
  • Develops methods to integrate systems that interact and extend across organizational and functional lines.
  • Reviews requirements across multiple applications and develops application models that span applications and domains.
  • Defines the conceptual and detailed architecture for the development of applications and oversees the evolution of that architecture as the platform is deployed across the entire organization.
  • Manages the architecture governance process, including developing, communication, and ensuring adherence to architecture processes, principles, policies, and standards for the enterprise.
  • Leads the defining of development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development and integration.
  • Creates/updates and presents annually a technology trends deliverable for technology and business executives.
  • Acts as a champion of change, leading the organizational changes required to create and sustain company capabilities.
  • Ability to recruit, manage, and maintain staff of architects as necessary to support specific practices, e.g., Cloud Architects and Security Architects.
  • Effectively partners with and influences technology business partners and practioners.


  • A bachelor's or master's degree in information technology or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years proven experience in delivering complex technology solutions across multiple domains (infrastructure, application development, security…).
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience within the architecture function.
  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; mobilize and motivate teams; set direction and approach; resolve conflicts; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity.
  • Ability to navigate through a matrixed organization for successful outcome.
  • Outstanding relationship, influencing, executive presence and negotiation skills.
  • Strong focus on stakeholder priorities and organizational goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable under pressure, changing priorities, and removing barriers to enable teams to complete objectives.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge in the use of multiple delivery methodologies and tools.
  • Multiple years of experience in regulated financial services or industries such as: life insurance, annuity, 401k, P&C pensions, mutual funds, or other retirement services is preferred.
  • Experience in the following or similar industries is a plus: commercial or retail banking, mortgage lending, financial technology.
